On the escalator of life
Nov. 12th, 2008 01:54 pmWhat is it that compels large numbers of reasonably physically fit people who are traveling alone to stand on escalators instead of walk? Walking up an escalator is free exercise, you won't break a sweat, and it saves you time.
I was in a local BART station, and it was about 90% standers and 10% walkers.
On a vaguely related note, the moving sidewalk was invented over 100 years ago. The sidewalk was extremely long, and had different "lanes" that gave you a choice of speeds.
It only shows good pictures of the sidewalk itself in the last 10 seconds.
