Commuting is a huge time suck.  I don't enjoy the act of driving, when it's taking me down the same road I've been a thousand times before.

I often listen to books on CD or podcasts.  However, sometimes that experience feels too passive.  I want to do something more expressive and active.  Of course, it can't involve spatial reasoning because I need that section of my brain to focus on the driving activities.

I've thought about:
1.  Learning to sing
2.  Changing how I breathe (apparently there are lots of advantages to learning to automatically breathe from the bottom of your chest)
3.  Some sort of mindfulness exercise.

Any ideas?

I think mindfulness exercises would take your mind off of driving..as it requires more complete attention.

learning to sing could be fun. Learning a new language could be good too.

Hmm- I have it on Itunes. I'll try burning it to a CD and bring it tomorrow.

I went through a period of getting highly stressed in traffic. I started blowing bubbles to get out of it and it really changed my driving experience. It made it really humanizing and started a lot of (positive) interactions with those around me. It was a neat way to pass the time, both because blowing bubbles is awesome and because it totally changes the mindset of driving as a solitary activity. (At least that was true for me.)
