Longest time lapse I've ever seen. This is what it means to be dedicated. Plants and trees live and move on a completely different time scale from our own, and this sort of thing brings their world to life.

A more detailed one over a year:

And apparently slugs are a popular time lapse subject:

Go go super slug!

It sort of surprises me that there are so many of these on YouTube. Obviously, YouTube hasn't actually been around long enough for it to have inspired any of it. So were lots of people just doing this on their own before? I suppose in a few years, by the time people will have had time to be inspired by all these things they've seen on YouTube, it'll be a familiar image to everyone, the way photomosaics are now.

I think this time lapse renaissance came about from the availability of cheap high quality webcams coupled with big hard drives. ... which happened in the early 2000s.

There are lots of memes that travel around the internet quickly, with everyone imitating each other. YouTube has shrunk that spreading time from weeks to days by making it much easier to share videos. However, the whole long-term-time-lapse thing, by definition, can't spread too quickly. :-)

I think we should fake a time lapse video. For posterity.

Btw, I miss you, so you might have to suck it up and dish out 40 cents/minute. I'll reimburse you 20 cents/minute. And talk fast.
