Access to space is currently around $20,000/lb.  This proposal utilizing a gas gun would make it far cheaper to get raw materials and small to medium satellites into space.  It couldn't be used for sending up people, but would likely result in a new era of cheap satellites and would bring the cost down for larger projects as it would allow fuel, inflatable modules, and other raw materials to be shot into space to be assembled in orbit.

The design cleverly uses a floating platform so that they can re-aim the gas gun for different orbits by rotating and tilting the platform.

The speaker has an extremely optimistic business plan, but he also has a great degree of credibility in terms of the relevant projects he's done in the past.  I wish him the best of luck.
