Unlikely rapper
Dec. 19th, 2009 05:19 pmI met a poet in his late 40s / early 50s named Mel C Thompson at an event last week. He told me he had a brief stint during the late 1990s and early 2000s as a nerdcore/parody rapper. His sound is very different from anything I've heard.
He writes: My stuff is a little different from direct parody or nerdcore because, like in my poetry, I never finally resolve whether Officer Mushroom is a good guy, a bad guy, a wimp or a thug. In various songs, the character occupies all of those roles and mixes them, raising and lowering the voice, totally switching the beat styles, so that the listener can never be secure in knowing who or what is being dealt with.
