Serious attention to detail

I just noticed that the little Street View Man on Google Maps is a leprechaun this week!   It appears that Google's culture is still at least somewhat intact! 

(If you're wondering what the hell street view is, go to maps.google.com, type in your address to zoom in on it, and then select the "street view" option.  Much fun will ensue.)

There's a tool that will archive your entire livejournal, including all pictures in your entries and all comments.

It has a search feature that lets you search your own journal.  It also makes graphs that show how many times various people have commented (food for the competitive hedonist in you). 

The UI is so-so, but it's free and open source, so you're not allowed to complain.

Big downside -- it's windows only.  Time to use boot camp...

I know a lot of you have put your heart and soul into your journals, and it's probably a very good idea to keep a copy on your hard drive so that you own a copy of your data.  It only takes about 5 minutes to download everything and slurp your journal.

The Russian media company that owns lj would be stupid to do anything to mess it up, but it could happen.
