Small nerdly world.
Jul. 8th, 2007 12:42 amI finally went to the Computer History Museum today. They had a *working* version of the PDP-1, a closet-sized computer from 1960. Some old programmers were on hand to demonstrate it and feed punch tape into it.
Curator: This is the computer that the very first computer game, spacewar, was written for in 1961. Since it wasn't a sanctioned use, the MIT students who wrote it ran the program late at night when no one else was using the computer.
Me: Hooray for MIT students. How long did it take them to write it?
Curator: About three months. If you want to learn more, you can talk to the creator. He's standing over there.
Small world.
