The Velveteen Rabbit on Highway 101

When I was a small child I read the story of the Velveteen Rabbit.  In the story, the rabbit is a stuffed animal that is roughly made but beloved by a boy.  (There's a subplot with other more well made toys and real rabbits looking down on the rabbit.)  One day the boy gets sick with something and his parents throw all his old toys out to prevent him from getting reinfected.  The boy gets a new stuffed rabbit, while the old one is left in a pile of garbage to be burned.

I hadn't thought about the story in years until this morning, when I was driving into work.
