Tesla delivery
Feb. 7th, 2008 05:35 pmLast night I had the good fortune of coming across the first Tesla Motors production car being transported in for delivery. I was driving on 101 and saw it sitting atop a big flatbed truck. I checked the news today and confirmed it. They switched to their own truck for the final photo op delivery.

It's a bold new era. For those who don't know, Tesla is a small silicon valley startup that has decided to deliver an electric car that's actually high performance. Rather than creating a $40k electric car that's ugly and slow, they created a $100k car that's incredibly fast and sexy. The difference is that few people would pay for the former but many would pay for the latter. Well off environmentalist early adopters are outnumbered by sports car enthusiasts.
The car is pure electric so you can just plug it in to recharge, and it runs over 200 miles on a charge.
As more people buy the car, the cost of the technology will drop, allowing them to create cheaper, more mass market electric cars. In fact, they have mass-market cars on the drawing board for the 2010-2012 timeframe.
