wikimapia

Oh my... it's Wikimapia.

I'm surprised this thing received 2 1/2 million entries before I even heard of it. It's amazing how much you can rely on users to create content for you, and how quickly a few thousand minds can pull an amazing amount of information out of their collective memories and put it onto a single site. It's a picture of what the future of the human race might be, with everyone's consciousnesses harnessed quickly toward a common goal.

Ruth Asawa

Ruth Asawa makes wire sculptures of an incredible intricacy and sophistication. Her forms are an amazing mix of organic fluidity and precise detail. The pictures on the web are okay, but it's way better to see them in person. It's at the De Young Museum for one more week.
